The two brands will remain distinct, but both will be owned by Prescription Eyewear, the parent company of Glasses Direct.

Glasses Direct was founded in 2004 by firsttime entrepreneur Jamie Murray Wells.

It employs 75 and has offices in London and Swindon.

Southend-based Sunglasses Shop was set up in 2003 by art school graduate Daniel Puddick and consultant Dagmara Barcz.
